Raoul Duke (played by Johnny Depp) is a drug addled "gonzo journalist" on assignment from Rolling Stone to cover a motorcycle race in the desert near Las Vegas. Hell breaks loose and the situation escalates into him and his psychopathic, Samonian attorney Dr. Gonzo (played by Benicio Del Toro) searching for the "American Dream" throughout the streets, casinos, bars, and circuses in Las Vegas. This movie is what The Hangover should have been.
Their escapades are aided by almost every drug known to man. The first line of the movie is, "We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold." And within minutes we find out how much stash they're carrying in a briefcase: "We had two bags of grass, 75 pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer [Budweiser], a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls." Quite the impressive collection, but...
